Charm Meanings: Coral

This Circa 1985 charm necklace couples a coral cabochon mini locket and an organic shaped coral bead. Email fawn@maximalart.com to find a retailer near you!

Coral symbolizes sensitivity, love, awareness, intuition, compassion, and forgiveness. Because of it’s specific blend of yellow and red, it contains both attributes of protection and acuity, and heightens your awareness when dealing with people who are likely to be dishonest. Coral Reefs are actually made of hundreds of thousands of separate life forms that come together to create a whole.  Therefore, the color Coral represents the creation of communities and global oneness.

Doesn’t your necklace need some friends?

Check out this little stop motion animation we made of a red seed bead necklace that finds some “charm”ing friends 🙂

I was just getting a good handle on sewing again when my machine decided to start eating thread. So, no pictures of this DIY inspiration yet- but I will keep you updated once I get it working!

Charm Meanings: This + That

Circa 1985 Charms and ChainsBicycle Charm: For the avid cyclist, the joy rider, the car-less commuter, and anyone who just loves the air in their hair and the sound of spokes wildly spinning- the bicycle charm is a playful, cute addition to a necklace or bracelet!

“I think bicycles have done more to emancipate woman than any one thing in the world. I rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel. It gives her a feeling of self reliance and independence the moment she takes her seat; and away she goes!” ~Susan B. Anthony

Magic wand: Do you believe in magic? Are you a good witch, a bad witch, a fairy princess? The magic wand is the symbol of the will, the power, and the strength by which the magician maintains her influence and is used in rituals, healing and spell casting. As a charm, it adds a touch of whimsy and fun to any outfit!

“Style is a magic wand, and turns everything that it touches to gold.”  ~ Logan Pearsall Smith

Heart Padlock: A symbol of everlasting love, the love padlock  can be traced to originating in Europe but appears in Asian cultures also. The story is that in pre-WWII Serbia, there was a schoolmistress named Nada from Vrnjačka Banja, who fell in love with a Serbian officer named Relja. After they committed to each other Relja went to war in Greece where he fell in love with another woman. As a consequence, Relja and Nada broke off their engagement. Nada never recovered from that devastating blow, and after some time she died due to heartbreak from her unfortunate love. Since then young girls from Vrnjačka Banja wanted to protect their own loves, they started writing down their names, together with the names of their loved ones, on padlocks and affixing them to the railings of the bridge where Nada and Relja used to meet. If you have someone in your life you can’t imagine living without, quick!, get a heart padlock and ensure they’re yours forever!
