The much anticipated Great Gatsby movie premiers today and we couldn’t be more excited to have fun with the opulent 1920’s fashions portrayed for today’s audience! Prada and Brooks Brothers partnered with Director Baz Luhrmann’s wife, costume designer Catherine Martin, on the film’s clothing. Fashion-world heavyweights, like Vogue and WWD, are already gushing about the new Roaring Twenties styles. The piece that most people forget: The flapper movement wasn’t simply a glamorous fashion trend, it was a full-out feminist revolution where women stopped dressing to please society but instead to please herself!
In fact, we used the Great Gatsby as inspiration in styling our “La Femme” look for our Circa 1985 lookbook! We think gold-edged, glittering pink druzy stones, glitzy initial charms, and pearl seed bead chains would be gotta-have-it items in modern-day Daisy Buchanan’s jewelry collection!
